Time for women and men to unite against the oppression of women in the arab world. To say no to violence against women, no to their allegiance to men, no to repression and abuse, no to their treatment as second class citizens.

We demand the full application of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for arab women just as for men. This chart comes before any State, any culture, any tradition, any mentality.

Let’s spread the word and create a strong solidarity network, share our views, denounce the absurd laws of our respective countries, and share updates about the progress and changes that we are working on.

TOGETHER FOR FEARLESS, FREE, INDEPENDENT WOMEN IN THE ARAB WORLD

Old Palestinian women (and men) are the soul of Palestine, they are just the most inspiring people. Filled with stories, memories, and history. If you ever get the opportunity to meet one ask them about Palestine before the Israel occupation and during and how their life was. You will NEVER get bored.

This is a picture of the children at the Dar al-Tifil school in Jerusalem with Ms. Hind al-Husseini (a true Palestinian hero) who took in 50 orphaned children following the Deir Yassin massacre which took place on April 9, 1948. My grandmother is one of the surviving children. )She is the one on the right with the button-up jacket. It’s always pretty surreal to see pictures like this)
Though it wasn’t the largest or most horrific of Israel’s unending list of barbaric atrocities and injustice committed against the Palestinian people, the Deir Yassin massacre essentially catapulted the Nakba (the catastrophe).
Though I was never fortunate enough to meet Sit Hind, she will always be my hero. I know her through my grandmother’s stories, and she is one of the reasons I decided to go into social work. She epitomized a selfless social worker and generosity with everything she did for countless children over the years. I will always be indebted to her.
God bless all those who face adversity and injustice every day in life, and may God bless all those who refuse to remain silent in the face of this injustice. You give me immense hope.
(if you would like to read more about Hind al-Hussein and Dar Al Tifil, please feel free to read my piece that was so kindly published by Sami Kishawi on his awesome blog, Sixteen Minutes to Palestine

Asya, a Chechen rebel, portrait of a woman. Now 22 with the face of an angel, she was carried off and raped at the age of 14. A man entered the family house while she was alone, threw a bag over her head, and hurriedly put her in the car where his accomplices were waiting. He kept her for a few days. He married with her. Chechen traditions allow a man to kidnap the woman he wants to marry, with or without her consent. After the birth of their child, her husband became jealous, drinking and beating her.She escaped to her sister in Grozny. She decided to become a nurse. After graduating from nursing school she met her second husband. She became a fighting nurse. Grozny, Chechnya, 1996.

"تعبت هذه الأرض
تعب الناس والنبات
الماء والكائنات
تعبت البيوت من الخراب
تعبت الشوارع من ضجة الرصاص
تعب الرجال من الرجال
تعب الناس من الكهوف
تعبوا من وحشة الدم
من اللغط الكثيف
آن أن ينهض سلام الأنوثة في أرواحهم
آن أن يرتبوا فوضاهم
أن يحفظوا الأرض من فدائح الهتك"
